History of the Daltrometer

In 2021, during my first cycle as a Drill Sergeant, I realized that we had been hitting a wall when setting up our dress uniforms. My Drill Sergeants in 2014 had told me to use two quarters taped together and a micrometer. Unfortunately, I passed the same advice on to my privates, but I knew there had to be a better way. This method was inconsistent, time-consuming, and relied on tools never intended for uniform setup. I experienced this and saw firsthand how young soldiers struggled to align everything correctly, often having to redo their work multiple times.

Three years later, after testing more than six generations of prototypes, I secured a patent. The early versions lacked durability, and some measurements were difficult to standardize. Through each iteration, I improved functionality, precision, and ease of use, ensuring the tool met the high standards required for military dress uniforms. Not only had I developed a tool that expedited uniform setup with precise measurements, but I had also tested the Daltrometer during the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club board. Not a single board member had a comment about my dress uniform—they could immediately see how precisely it was set up. Since then, hundreds of service members have used the Daltrometer to save time and ensure uniform compliance with ease.
